Because normal human melanocytes show a great inter-donors variability in alpha-MSH sensitivity, the B16 melanocyte cell line is recommended for the screening of whitening agents. Using the natural MSH stimulation of the melanogenic process in B16 melanoma cell line increases the sensitivity to highlight lightening effects compared to the effect on basal melanogenesis.
