Adipose tissue is mostly composed of adipocytes and is the major form of energy storage for the body. The primary functions of these cells are to store triglycerides when there is an excessive supply of energy metabolites and to mobilize these reserves in case of starvation or caloric restriction. Lipogenesis is a stocking mechanism of fatty lipid neosynthesis from fatty acids or carbohydrates.
The purpose of this assay is to evaluate the inhibiting effect of compounds (molecules, active ingredients, extracts, etc.) on lipogenesis (slimming effect) in normal human hypodermic adipocytes (ex vivo) by incorporating [14C]-acetate in total lipids.
