The hair follicle is located under the skin and behaves as an independent skin appendage which produces the hair shaft.
This ex vivo hair follicle model is directly derived from the widely recognized standard conditions described by Philpott et al. It represents a “natural” co-culture model of human differentiated cutaneous cells (keratinocytes, fibroblasts, melanocytes and stem cells).
The purpose of this assay is to evaluate the stimulating or inhibiting effects of compounds (molecules, active ingredients, extracts, etc.) on hair growth or hair survival (anti-apoptosis, anti-loss) by using morphometric techniques (images and measurements).
